The course program

Week 1

Introduction

  • Concept of Conducting Circles: Circles are communal gatherings for sharing and growth, offering a structured yet open space for emotional and interpersonal exploration. This format values collective wisdom and mutual respect, allowing every voice to be heard.

  • History: Women's circles trace back to ancient traditions in various cultures, serving as vital spaces for women to share, heal, and make decisions together. They often played roles in rites of passage and communal support.

  • Types of Women's Circles: Women's circles vary from healing and spiritual circles to book clubs and hobby groups. Some focus on life stages like motherhood, others on shared interests or spiritual practices.

  • Facilitator's Mindset: Facilitators should be open, empathetic, and skilled in active listening. They maintain neutrality, guide without dominating, and create a safe space for all participants.

  • Facilitator's Personality: Facilitators should be approachable, compassionate, and authentic, with a strong sense of self-awareness and responsiveness to group dynamics.

  • Starting Each Circle: Circles begin by setting an intention, choosing a theme, and picking a date that aligns with the group’s needs and external factors like seasonal or lunar cycles.

  • Structure for Conducting Circles: A circle typically includes an opening ritual, a check-in round, a themed activity, and a closing ritual. Preparation involves arranging the physical space, creating playlists, and incorporating elements like cocoa ceremonies for their spiritual benefits.

  • Clear Conduit: Facilitators prepare by engaging in practices like meditation or grounding exercises to clear their minds and open their hearts, ensuring they lead with clarity and presence.

  • Visual Image: Leaders’ appearance should reflect the circle's theme, with appropriate colors, styles, or accessories that enhance the thematic experience and inspire participants.

  • Creating a Supportive Environment: This involves arranging a welcoming physical setting with thoughtful seating, soft lighting, and a comfortable atmosphere that fosters emotional safety and openness.

  • Working with Volunteers and Assistants: Managing volunteers requires clear communication of roles, training, and support to ensure they are effectively integrated into the circle's activities and feel valued within the team.

Preparation and Opening

  • Finding and Preparing the Space: Select a location that aligns with the theme and intention of the circle. Cleanse and arrange the space to create a welcoming and peaceful environment.

  • Creating the Altar: Designate a central space for the altar. Decorate it with objects that represent the circle's theme, such as candles, stones, symbols, and natural elements to create a focal point of energy.

  • Setting the Intention: Before the participants arrive, clearly define the intention of the circle. This intention will guide all activities and discussions within the circle.

  • Welcoming Participants: As participants arrive, greet each one to make them feel welcomed and valued. This could include brief introductions, offering a small token like a bracelet or a flower, or a personal gesture like a handshake or hug, depending on the comfort level and norms of the group.

  • Opening the Circle: Start with a ritual to formally open the circle. This could involve a short meditation, a group chant, or a simple statement of purpose shared by the leader. Establish the ground rules for respectful and empathetic communication.

  • Energizing the Space and Participants: Use techniques like sound (gongs, bowls, music), light (candles, dim lighting), or scents (incense, essential oils) to enhance the atmosphere and help participants transition from their everyday concerns to a more reflective and communal mindset.

  • Group Tuning and Meditation: Lead a meditation to help participants attune to each other and the environment. This could involve guided visualization, breathing exercises, or silent contemplation to help everyone center their thoughts and emotions.

  • Protective Field and Cleansing: Teach and practice techniques to establish a protective energy field around the circle. Use methods like visualizing a protective barrier, calling on spiritual guides, or using specific symbols to fortify the group's energy. Offer simple energetic cleansing practices that participants can perform, such as visualizing light washing over them or physically brushing away negative energy.

Week 3

The Actual Circle Experience

  • Ecstatic Dance: Organize an ecstatic dance session to allow participants to express themselves freely through movement. This activity helps release emotional blockages and stimulates joy and freedom.

  • Cacao Ceremony: How to hold a cacao ceremony to facilitate deep emotional and spiritual work. Cacao is used as a heart-opening plant medicine, and the ceremony typically involves drinking ceremonial-grade cacao followed by meditation or a guided activity that enhances connection and introspection.

  • Metaphorical Cards: Use metaphorical or oracle cards for personal reflection or group sharing. Participants draw cards and discuss the imagery and meanings, which can unveil subconscious thoughts and facilitate deeper discussions.

  • Breathing Practices: Introduce breathing exercises to regulate and deepen participants' awareness of their physical and emotional states. Breathing practices can be used to calm, energize, or balance.

  • Chakral Breathing: Focus on chakral breathing techniques that target the energy centers (chakras) of the body. This practice can help in clearing and energizing the chakras, promoting overall energetic balance.

  • Pair Practices: Facilitate pair practices where participants work in pairs to explore trust, intimacy, or mutual support. These exercises might include mirroring actions, deep listening, or sharing personal stories.

  • Blessing Practices: Conduct blessing practices where participants can offer blessings to each other or receive blessings. This could be through verbal affirmations, laying on of hands, or other ritualistic elements that foster a sense of support and community.

Week 4

Closing: Conclusion. Nuances. Promotion.

Practices for Closing the Circle: Employ reflective practices such as sharing key insights, a gratitude round, or a collective intention-setting for the next meeting to conclude the circle meaningfully.

Gathering Feedback: Collect feedback through open discussions, feedback forms, or an informal chat post-circle to understand participants' experiences and areas for improvement.

Collaborating with Other Masters: Foster relationships with other facilitators or experts by attending workshops, joining networks, or co-hosting sessions to enrich the circle's offerings and broaden participant experiences.

Organizational Aspects (expenses, purchases, checklists):
Manage logistical details by maintaining clear records of expenses and purchases. Use checklists to ensure all necessary preparations are handled efficiently before each circle.

Features of a Spa Circle: If conducting circles in a spa, consider the unique setting which can involve rituals like steam sessions or thermal therapy, focusing on purification and deep relaxation.

Conducting Retreats and External Sessions: Plan and execute retreats or external sessions by choosing suitable locations, preparing itineraries that align with the circle’s theme, and managing logistics for accommodation and transportation.

Recruiting Participants for Circles, Working with Social Media: Attract new participants by promoting circles through social media platforms. Share engaging content, testimonials, and upcoming event details to draw interest and build a community.
